Welcome to the weekend, my friends! I hope that your holidays were lovely and spent exactly as you wished. We’re cleaning up the house this weekend and putting away the decorations. I’m looking forward to the fresh start for 2020 and dreaming up so many new foods to share with you! As much as I enjoy Christmas, I also love January and all the plans that come with it.

ON THE BLOG this week: Nothing new to see here. It has been a lovely week filled with very little work.

What I’m CRAVING: So many soups, stews, and chilis! There’s nothing better when the weather is chilly. I made a giant batch of this Steak Chili along with this Green Chile Stew earlier this week and my kids have been eating giant bowls of each for lunch all week. My middle son has also requested Baked Potato Soup, so it’s on the menu for this week.

My friend Tricia’s Creamy Chicken Gnocchi Soup is also on the menu plan along with this Irish Beef Stew by Simply Recipes.

My FAVORITE THINGS this week are these freezer baskets (link HERE) Anyone else hate dealing with oddly shaped packages in the freezer? These baskets are the BEST for keeping things somewhat organized! (I’ve tried all sorts of plastic boxes in the past and they just aren’t great in the cold. If they get dropped, they tend to crack or break, and if they’re opaque, they’ll frost over and you can’t see inside them.

I put these baskets in my spare freezer and in the freezer side of my refrigerator. I can separate different meats to see exactly what we might be running low on and keep track of all of the bags of fruits and vegetables and random things as well.

What I’m WATCHING: Parks and Rec (link HERE) My older kids and I have been watching Parks and Rec for a few months now and it never fails to make us laugh. Both of the boys received Parks and Rec t-shirts (link HERE) for Christmas and it cracks me up when they wear them.

(Side note - I’ve figured out why I dislike most comedies and it’s the laugh track that is added. Shows without fake laughter = so much better!)

What I’m READING: A Month of Summer by Lisa Wingate (link HERE) This was such a great read. Admittedly, it took me a few chapters to really get into this one and initially, I didn’t like the characters much, but by the end? I loved the book and didn’t want it to end. I don’t think I’ve read anything by Lisa Wingate before and I really enjoyed her style of writing. It’s clean without being preachy at all and the characters wound up being incredibly relatable.

As we start the new year, I’m reminded of one of my favorite quotes: “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.” - James Clear

My goals for 2020 include more family time, more friend time, and more little memories made every day. Here’s to a wonderful year to come!

Wishing you a beautiful week full of little things that make you smile!

Mary
