I had a blast working with Princess Cruises and sailing with my husband on their beautiful Caribbean Princess last week.

When Princess Cruises promises that you’ll “Come Back New” from one of their cruises, it’s not hyperbole. Lindy and I spent the week luxuriating in each other’s company, eating incredible food, sleeping in a comfortable bed, and enjoying spa services at sea.

We decided to get adventurous with our excursions and tried things that seemed likely to give us a little adrenaline rush. We did Helmet Diving (think Jules Verne but with modern dive helmets), a 4x4 Beach Safari, Extreme Ziplining, and America’s Cup Yacht Racing. When I tell you we dropped into our bed and slept like rocks each of those nights, I mean it.

In short, I’m Princess Cruises’ newest fan girl.

Have you ever gone on a cruise? Where did you cruise? What was your favourite part?

THINGS I LOVE:

I love, love, love this broad spectrum spf lotion. I have a little bit of the whole Princess and the Pea high maintenance attitude about spf. I know it’s not negotiable, but I really dislike the sensation or smell that most spf lotions deliver. I don’t like the sprays because, well, I’m hopeless and inevitably spray myself in the eye or mouth. I got a sample of this a couple of years ago from birchbox and ended up loving it enough to buy a giant jug of it to cover all my boys, my husband, and myself for an entire summer. It soaks in quickly, it has a light, fresh scent instead of a perfumey one, and I don’t feel greasy at all when I wear it.

I love this facial moisturizer. It is unlike any other I’ve ever tried and it’s really hard to describe. It’s almost like a cushiony gel that absorbs almost instantly into the skin. It makes my face feel baby soft and smells like Jolly Rancher watermelon candies, which works for me. The only part of Jolly Ranchers I ever liked was the smell.

A couple of months ago, I told you about this 72 hour, all-natural, cream deodorant I was using and promised to check back in and let you know whether I still liked it. The short version? I do. Definitely. I am on my second container of it. The long version is that I sometimes reapply more often than 72 hours, if I get paranoid about smelling funky, but it works really well.

I carry some of this powder deodorant in my purse because while the cream deodorant fights stink, it doesn’t stop sweating. The powder deodorant is there to help dry things up if I feel like I’m a little too sweaty. They both have mild herbal scents that I like very much.

These pistachios are habit forming. A friend introduced me to these a month or so ago, and I don’t dare admit how many of them the guys and I have eaten. We blew through at least two Costco sized bags. That’s all I’m saying. The salt and pepper coating on them is so irresistible.

WHAT LOOKS TASTY:

These Roasted Balsamic Rhubarb and Strawberry Yogurt Parfaits. I love how balsamic vinegar makes strawberries so much more perfumey, and I love how strawberries and rhubarb play together. Put that with yogurt, and I think it sounds like a perfect weekend brunch offering.

This Simple Mediterranean Avocado Salad sounds so fresh and delicious. I want to serve this alongside some grilled chicken or fish this week!

These Pimiento Cheese Grits make me so happy because a) I love Pimiento Cheese and b) I love grits. Sign me up.

BOOKS ON MY NIGHTSTAND:

The Man Who Ate Everything by Jeffrey Steingarten. This is a fun one. If you’ve ever gone to great lengths to find a foolproof recipe for your favourite food, driven miles upon miles to buy a jar of the best maple syrup around, done hours of research to learn the best way to cook a steak, or anything else of that kind, you’ll get a charge out of this hilarious book. I have caught myself laughing out loud at some of Mr. Steingarten’s antics. I highly recommend this book.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini. I haven’t started this one yet, but my eldest son absolutely, positively loves it and I’ve meant to read it for years so we could discuss it. I’m excited to start it this week because I do so love fantasy fiction, and this is said to be an excellent piece of fantasy.

BRAIN FOOD QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow.” – Lin Yutang
